Set Tax Preferences for a Specific Aircraft Using the Tax Override
This article outlines how to configure aircraft-specific tax preferences and how to troubleshoot "tax precedence" issues if the expected rates or behavior don’t apply.
The Tax Override feature in EBIS allows you to set a custom tax configuration at the aircraft level. These settings override any default or city-level tax profiles and are automatically applied to new work orders created for the aircraft. This is useful for customers with tax exemptions, dual-rate rules, or unique requirements across service types.
This article outlines how to configure aircraft-specific tax preferences and how to troubleshoot precedence issues if the expected rates or behavior don’t apply.
Setting a Tax Profile on a Specific Aircraft Using the Tax Override
To configure aircraft-specific tax behavior:
- Go to the Aircraft Module and select the aircraft
- Click the Tax Override tab
- Toggle Use Tax Override to On
- Click Save
- The following fields will now be available:
- Is Taxable toggle
- Tax Method (Standard, Fluctuating, Dual Rate)
- Tax Rate value input
You can also apply taxes to individual billing categories:
- Toggle Use Tax Items to On
- Click Save
- Select which components of the invoice should be taxed:
- Labor
- Parts
- Shop Supplies
- Shipping
- Credit Card Fees, etc.
📘 This setup is useful for customers with special tax exemption rules or for those operating in jurisdictions with partial tax applications.
⚠️ Tax Overrides are only applied to newly created work orders. There is currently no option to sync tax settings to existing open work orders.
Troubleshooting the Billing Precedence if the Desired Numbers Don’t Display
If the tax settings you configured on the aircraft are not reflected in the work order, review these key precedence rules:
EBIS Tax Precedence (from highest to lowest):
- Work Order Line Item Tax Settings
- Work Order Config & Billing Tab Tax Settings
- Aircraft-Level Tax Override
- City Tax Profile
- All-City Tax Profile (Default System Setting)
Check for overrides in the following locations:
- At the line item level (especially for parts and OSRs)
- In the Config & Billing tab of the work order
These settings may block or supersede the aircraft-level tax configuration.
💡 If you're unsure which setting is taking precedence, compare the Tax Rate and Taxable toggles between the aircraft and the work order line item or config tab.
