Associating a Parts Catalog to an Aircraft

This article explains what the Parts Catalog is, how it works, and how to override the default catalog when needed.

In EBIS, Parts Catalogs define the default parts, kits, and instructions commonly used for a specific Make/Model/Spec of aircraft. Associating the correct catalog helps standardize job scoping, reduce technician errors, and streamline Work Order generation.

This article explains what the Parts Catalog is, how it works, and how to override the default catalog when needed.

Using the Parts Catalog on an Aircraft

What is the Parts Catalog?

The Parts Catalog is a structured list of parts associated with a particular Make/Model/Spec of aircraft. It may include:

  • Common replacement parts (filters, tires, o-rings)
  • Parts used on Work Orders associated to this aircraft Make/Model/Spec
  • Vendor-specific components

What Drives the Parts Catalog?

The default Parts Catalog shown on an aircraft is driven by the Make/Model/Spec assignment. If Fleet Media or standard parts have been configured at the fleet level, any aircraft with that same config will inherit the catalog automatically.

📘 Parts Catalogs are associated to a Make/Model/Spec in Config > Fleet > Parts Catalogs and can be configured in Config > Parts Catalog.

Associating a Parts Catalog from a Different Make/Model/Spec to an Aircraft

If an aircraft needs to reference a different Parts Catalog — for example, if it’s customized, a sub-variant, or undergoing an STC — you can override the default using the Parts Catalog Override field.

How to Override the Parts Catalog

  1. Go to Modules > Aircraft.
  2. Select the aircraft record.
  3. Click into the Main Info tab.
  4. Locate the Parts Catalog Override dropdown.
  5. Select the desired Make/Model/Spec whose catalog you want to apply.
  6. Click Save.

⚠️ This setting only affects the Parts Catalog. It does not change the aircraft's actual Make/Model/Spec.

⚠️ Important Note on Fleet Config Override ⚠️

If the aircraft also has a Fleet Config Override in place, that override will impact the Parts Catalog shown.

How it works:

  • The Fleet Config Override affects both Fleet Media and the Parts Catalog by default.
  • However, if you set a Parts Catalog Override, it will take precedence over the Fleet Config Override and determine which Parts Catalog is applied.

🔍 Best Practice: If you're using the Fleet Config Override to inherit media from a different fleet, but still want to use the original aircraft's Parts Catalog, be sure to set the Parts Catalog Override to match the original Make/Model/Spec.
