Viewing & Updating Meter Readings (Aircraft Times)

This article walks through how to view current and historical readings, update readings using Batch Update, and use quick tools like "Use Latest Readings" or manual field-level updates.

Accurate and up-to-date meter readings are central to EBIS workflows. From triggering maintenance schedules to populating logbooks and invoices, Aircraft Times ensure that your documentation, compliance tracking, and reporting are aligned with actual usage.

This article walks through how to view current and historical readings, how to update readings using the recommended Batch Update tool, and how to leverage quick tools like "Use Latest Readings" or manual field-level updates.

Viewing Current & Historical Aircraft Times/Meter Readings

You can view current and historical Aircraft Times from two main areas in EBIS:

From the Aircraft Module:

  1. Go to Modules > Aircraft.
  2. Select the Aircraft you want to review.
  3. Click into the Readings tab.

This view is ideal for seeing a clean history of changes, identifying trends, or verifying the most recent entry.

From a Work Order:

  1. Open the relevant Work Order.
  2. Click the Readings tab.
  3. You’ll see meter values associated with the Meter Display Date assigned to this Work Order.

⚠️ Warning message: If the Meter Display Date (in the Config & Billing tab) does not match the readings date, EBIS will show a message like: “These are the readings for the specified meter display date: [DATE]. These will be used on various printouts for this work order.”

Use the date selector to confirm or adjust which reading snapshot is being referenced. This allows backdating or syncing the readings to match the timing of work performed.

Updating Aircraft Times/Meter Readings using Batch Update (Recommended)

What is Batch Update?

Batch Update is the preferred method in EBIS for entering or editing aircraft meter readings — especially when updating times for multiple aircraft or applying values across multiple meters at once. It ensures data consistency, allows historical backdating, and offers fine-grained control over each field.

How to Access It:

You can access Batch Update from two places:

From the Aircraft Module:

  1. Navigate to Modules > Aircraft.
  2. Select the aircraft record.
  3. Click the Readings tab.
  4. Click the Add Meter Reading icon (calendar icon w/ the star).
  5. Click Batch Update in the upper-right corner.

From a Work Order:

  1. Open the relevant Work Order.
  2. Click the Readings tab.
  3. Click Batch Update to open the entry form for meter readings.

This allows you to conveniently manage meter updates either directly from the aircraft or in the context of active maintenance.

Fields Available in Batch Update:

  • Batch Update Using Unit: Determines which usage metric (Hours, Cycles, or Landings) drives the update. This controls how the system calculates the change in meter values.
  • Override Date (optional): Lets you apply the update to a specific past date. If left blank, the update applies to today's date.
  • Meter Reading: Choose which specific meter (e.g., Hobbs, Tach, Flight Time) will drive the batch update.
  • Update Using: Select how the update is calculated:
    • Current Reading: You enter the new total value for the selected meter.
    • Specific Amount: You specify how much time to add to the existing reading.
  • Last Reading: Displays the most recent recorded value for the selected meter, to provide a reference.
  • Current Reading or Specific Amount: Based on your "Update Using" selection:
    • If "Current Reading," you enter the new total value.
    • If "Specific Amount," you enter the number of units (e.g., 3 hours) to add.
  • Amount to Add: Auto-calculated if you choose "Current Reading," or manually entered if using "Specific Amount."

🔍 Tip: Double-check the unit selected (Hours, Cycles, or Landings) matches the aircraft's usage pattern. Updates apply only to the selected metric and meter reading.

🔍 Tip: For each meter type, only update the values you are certain about. Leave others blank to avoid overwriting valid existing data.

Key Considerations:

  • You can backdate readings to match when the event occurred.
  • Only one set of readings can exist per date per aircraft.
  • Updating a past date will override any existing record for that day.

Updating Aircraft Times/Meter Readings using “Use Latest Readings”

If you're working on a Work Order and want to quickly pull in the most current Aircraft Times from the Aircraft Module:

  1. Open the Work Order.
  2. Click the Readings tab.
  3. Click “Use Latest Readings.”

This pulls the latest readings based on the most recent date recorded in the Aircraft record. It’s a quick option but should be used with awareness — especially if there’s been activity since the work began.

Updating Individual Aircraft Times/Meter Reading Fields

Sometimes you may need to update a single meter reading manually, either due to corrections, manual logs, or follow-up verification.

How to Update Manually:

  1. Navigate to Modules > Aircraft.
  2. Select the aircraft record.
  3. Click the Readings tab.
  4. Click the Add Meter Reading icon (calendar icon w/ the star).
  5. Manually enter values into the appropriate meter fields.
  6. Click Add.
