Managing How Meter Readings Display Across the System with Display Profiles

This article explains how Display Profiles work, how to configure them within a Meter Profile, and how to control what appears on printouts.

Display Profiles in EBIS control which meter readings and aircraft detail fields appear on system-generated documents — including logbooks, invoices, estimates, and maintenance printouts. They ensure that only the most relevant data is shown to customers and technicians.

This article explains how Display Profiles work, how to configure them within a Meter Profile, and how to control what appears on printouts.

📘 For background on the differences between Meter Profiles and Display Profiles, see Understanding How Meter Profiles Work.

What is a Display Profile?

A Display Profile is a grouping of meter readings and aircraft detail fields that determines what shows up on:

  • Logbooks
  • Work Order printouts
  • Invoices and estimates

Each Meter Profile can contain multiple Display Profiles to suit different reporting and documentation needs (e.g., Airframe, Engine, Invoice).

Accessing Display Profiles

  1. Go to Config > Meter Profiles.
  2. Select a specific profile.
  3. Click into the Display Profiles tab.

You’ll see a list of existing profiles (e.g., "Airframe", "APU", "Engine 1") associated with the Meter Profile.

Creating a Display Profile

  1. From the Display Profiles tab, click "+ Add Meter Display Profile" in the top right.
  2. Enter a name for the profile — this should reflect its use case (e.g., Airframe, Invoice, Logbook).
  3. Click Add and Go To to begin configuring the profile.
  4. Add items by clicking + Add Item and selecting either:
    1. Add Reading – Choose from the profile’s configured meter readings
    2. Add Aircraft Detail – Select fields like Engine SN, APU Hours, Last Oil Reading
  5. Use the Sort # to determine the order in which items appear on printouts.

📘 Each Display Profile is specific to a single Meter Profile. You can reuse the same structure by manually replicating it across profiles if needed.

Editing a Display Profile

  1. Click into a specific Display Profile.
  2. Review the list of currently included readings and aircraft detail fields.
  3. Click + Add Item to add a new element:
    1. Add Reading: Choose from available meter readings in this profile
    2. Add Aircraft Detail: Choose from aircraft-level fields (e.g., Engine SN, Last Oil Reading)
  4. Use the Sort # to control the order of appearance

💡 You can create different Display Profiles for each use case — what appears on invoices doesn’t have to match what appears on logbooks.

Setting Default Display Profiles for Log Books and Maintenance Printouts

Within the Options tab of a Meter Profile, you can assign:

  • Default Display Profile (Logbooks): Determines which Display Profile appears in the Work Order > Log Books tab
  • W/O Display Profile (Work Order Reports): Determines which Display Profile is used for Work Order reports like estimates, invoices, and maintenance printouts

Most users select “Airframe” for both by default.

Display Logic Options (Per Reading)

Each meter reading in a Display Profile includes a Display Type that controls when it appears:

  • Display Always: Show even if blank or zero
  • Display >= 0: Show if zero or greater, but hide if blank
  • Display > 0: Only show if value is greater than zero

📘 These settings help clean up reports by hiding unused or blank values. These can be accessed by going to Config > Meter Profiles > selecting a Meter Profile > Readings tab and selecting a Meter Reading.

Overriding the Meter Reading Display Profile for Invoices & Estimates

If needed, you can override the default Display Profile shown on an Invoice or Estimate for a specific Work Order:

  1. Go to the Work Order > Reports tab.
  2. Select the Customer Estimate (With Options) or the Customer Invoice (With Options) report.
  3. Select the filter Display Profile from the dropdown.
  4. Select the Display Profile you'd like to use (e.g., "Engine 1", "Airframe")

This override only applies to the current printout.

Overriding the Meter Reading Display Profile for Log Book Entries

To override which Display Profile is used on a logbook entry:

  1. Go to the Work Order > Log Books tab.
  2. Locate the Display Profile dropdown.
  3. Select the desired profile before generating the logbook.

This is useful for tailoring what readings show based on specific maintenance performed.

Troubleshooting When Meter Reading Values Aren’t Displaying

If meter readings are not appearing on your printouts, check the following:

  • Is the reading included in the Display Profile? Go to Config > Meter Profiles > Display Profiles > click into the profile > ensure the reading is listed.
  • Is the Display Type set appropriately? If the reading is 0 or blank and set to Display > 0, it will be hidden.
  • Is the correct Display Profile being applied to the Work Order? Check both the Log Books and Config & Billing tabs.
  • Was a reading entered for the selected printout date? Printouts reflect meter readings tied to specific dates — confirm one exists for that date.

Use Cases for Multiple Display Profiles

  • Airframe vs. Engine printouts: Separate groups of readings for each logbook section
  • Invoice vs. Internal maintenance reports: Limit what customers see while showing full data internally
  • Custom formatting by fleet: Apply different display formats based on aircraft type or customer preferences
