Viewing & Managing Engine Compression Readings in the Cylinders Tab

This article explains how to activate, enter, and view compression readings throughout the system.

EBIS includes functionality for tracking engine cylinder compression readings as part of an aircraft’s maintenance history. This is particularly useful for engine health monitoring and documentation, especially for piston-powered aircraft. This guide explains how to activate, enter, and view compression readings throughout the system.

Activating the Cylinders Tab to Capture Engine Compression Readings

By default, cylinder tracking is not enabled in EBIS. To activate it:

  1. Go to Config > Meter Profiles
  2. Select the Meter Profile associated with the aircraft
  3. Click the Options tab
  4. Toggle on the setting called Cylinder History
  5. Click Save

Once enabled, any aircraft using this meter profile will display a new Cylinders tab on the left-hand menu of the aircraft record and its associated work orders.

📘 Cylinder tracking is enabled at the Meter Profile level, not individually per aircraft.

Viewing and Adding Engine Compression Readings from the Aircraft or Work Order

After enabling the setting, you can add and view compression readings in two places:

1. From the Aircraft Record:

  1. Go to Aircraft Module and select a specific tail number
  2. Click the Cylinders tab
  3. Click the + Add Cylinder Compression button in the top right
  4. Enter:
    1. Reading Date
    2. Master Orifice (MO) value in the Eng. A field
    3. Compression readings for Engine A (A1–A6)
    4. Master Orifice (MO) value in the Eng. B field
    5. Compression readings for Engine B (B1–B6)
  5. Click Add and Close to save

2. From a Work Order:

  1. Go to the Work Orders Module and open a W.O. for that aircraft
  2. Click the Cylinders tab on the left
  3. Click + Add Cylinder Compression
  4. Enter your values and click Add and Close

These compression reading values can be quickly copied to a logbook entry using the Copy button in the top right of the compression reading record.

💡 Cylinder compression history is retained with the aircraft and accessible both during and outside of work orders.

💡 If you plan to copy the compression reading values into a logbook entry using the Copy button, it's recommended to start the values entered in the Eng. A and  Eng. B fields with "MO: ". This will make it easier to bulk copy/paste to a logbook entry.

Viewing Engine Compression Readings on the Customer Record Report

Cylinder compression readings (Engine A only) will display in the Customer Record Report PDF:

  1. Go to the Customers Module
  2. Select a customer and go to the Reports tab
  3. Click Customer Record Report
  4. Select the tail number
  5. Click View Report to generate the PDF

The report will include:

  • Engine A compression readings (A1–A6)

⚠️ Engine B compression values (B1–B6) are not displayed on the Customer Record Report at this time.
