Creating a New Meter Profile

This article provides step-by-step instructions for creating a new Meter Profile in the system.

Before aircraft can begin tracking usage in EBIS, they must be assigned a Meter Profile — a configuration that defines which time or usage readings are captured (e.g., Hobbs, Tach, Cycles, Landings). This article provides step-by-step instructions for creating a new Meter Profile in the system.

📘 For background on what Meter Profiles are and how they work, see Understanding How Meter Profiles Work.

Step 1: Navigate to the Meter Profile Configuration

  1. Go to Config > Meter Profiles.
  2. Click "+ Add New Meter Profile".

Step 2: Create the Profile

  • Enter a clear, descriptive name (e.g., "Standard Piston (Hobbs/Tach)", "Jet Dual Engine Profile"). This name will be selectable when assigning a Meter Profile to an aircraft.
  • Select an Asset Type.
  • If you want to copy from an existing Meter Profile, select an existing profile in the Copy From Profile dropdown.
  • Click Add and Go To.

🔍 Tip: Include aircraft type or fleet purpose in the name for easy recognition.

Step 3: Add Meter Readings to the Profile

After saving the profile name, you'll be redirected to the profile's detail page where you can begin adding Meter Readings.

  1. Click "+ Add Meter Reading".
  2. For each meter you want to track (e.g., Hobbs, Tach, Landings):
    1. Enter a name (this appears throughout EBIS in forms and reports)
    2. Choose the unit type (Hours, Cycles, etc.)
    3. Configure settings such as:
      1. Reading Type
      2. How this reading is validated throughout the system
      3. If it can be included in Batch Updates for aircraft times
      4. How it should display (or not display) values of 0 or empty values
  3. Repeat for each meter value needed.
  4. Click Add to save.

Continue this process for each of the desired Meter Readings.
