Using Aircraft Fields for Report Building and Sorting
This article walks through the purpose of each of the secondary Aircraft module fields and how to use them to sort, group, and analyze aircraft across your organization.
EBIS allows you to configure secondary Aircraft fields that support better organization, categorization, and filtering across reports, dashboards, and operational workflows. These fields do not directly affect billing or maintenance, but they are essential for administrative control and business reporting.
This article walks through the purpose of each of these fields and how to use them to sort, group, and analyze aircraft across your organization.
Setting up the Secondary Aircraft Fields
The following fields can be configured on an aircraft record from the Main Info tab. Each one can be used as a reporting or sorting dimension throughout EBIS:
Aircraft Class
- Purpose: Categorize aircraft based on size or engine/power type (e.g., Jet, Helicopter, Single Engine, Turboprop).
- Use Case: Helps filter reports for specific aircraft types. Commonly used to identify Meter Profiles or differentiate work between technician groups.
Fuel Code
- Purpose: Identify the fuel type used by the aircraft (e.g., Jet A, Avgas).
- Use Case: Supports operations planning, fuel vendor coordination, and fueling logs.
Cost Center
- Purpose: Assign the aircraft to a specific department, region, or business unit for cost tracking.
- Use Case: Useful for internal billing or reporting on aircraft usage by department.
User Status
- Purpose: Custom, user-defined field that can be used for tracking aircraft states like "Inactive," "Pending Sale," or "Long-Term Project." Can also be used to categorize aircraft based on usage or ownership (e.g., Charter, Personal, Corporate).
- Use Case: Helps filter reports for specific customer segments or business models.
Department
- Purpose: Similar to Cost Center but often used for organizational alignment (e.g., MX, Flight Ops, Sales).
- Use Case: Filter reports by department or drive assignment logic for personnel.
📘 When the Department field is set on an Aircraft record, it does not populate the Department field on a Work Order line item.
Location
- Purpose: Designate the aircraft's current or home location.
- Use Case: Supports logistics, dispatching, and regional analysis.
Is Rental (Yes/No toggle)
- Purpose: Flags whether the aircraft is available for rental.
- Use Case: Enables rental reporting and filtering, particularly for flight schools or FBOs.
💡 These fields are available in various EBIS reports and can also be used for custom report views or filters.
Where These Fields Are Used
- Reports & Dashboards: Filter and group by any of these fields.
- Aircraft List Views: Add columns and apply filters.
To narrow down your search on these parameters, use the Advanced Search button on most reports and apply these filters. For example:
- Go to Module > Aircraft on the List tab.
- Click the Advanced Search button in the top right.
- Apply the desired filters and click Search.
