Tracking Engines and Props Installed on an Aircraft

This article walks through how to view, update, and manage Engine and Prop records using the Aircraft Detail page.

In EBIS, you can track detailed information about the engines and propellers installed on each aircraft. This includes serial numbers, makes/models, next due dates, and general maintenance metadata. Accurately tracking these components ensures correct maintenance forecasting, historical documentation, and compliance reporting.

This article walks through how to view, update, and manage these records using the Aircraft Detail page.

Using the Aircraft Detail Page

The Aircraft Detail page contains a dedicated section for Engines and Propellers. Here, you can enter or update component data, including:

  • Engine and Propeller Serial Numbers
  • Make and Model of installed engines
  • Miscellaneous reference or service dates

📘 These fields do not auto-update when meter readings are updated. They're manually maintained and used for reference and reporting.

How to Access

  1. Go to Modules > Aircraft.
  2. Select the aircraft you want to view.
  3. Click into the Detail tab, where you’ll find the Engines, Propeller, Next Due, Date, and Miscellaneous sections.

Tracking General Next Due Dates

While EBIS's Compliance Module is the best place to track component-specific intervals, you can still enter high-level "Next Due" dates for engines or props directly on the Aircraft record.

These dates are commonly used to:

  • Track next annual inspection, ELT, O/2 or FAR 411/FAR 413
  • Provide at-a-glance visibility in reports
  • Inform planning without needing full compliance configuration

⚠️ These dates are not meter reading-driven. For full interval tracking, see Managing Recurring Maintenance with the Compliance Module.

Tracking Engine Serial Numbers, Makes, and Models

You can enter identifying information for up to three engines per aircraft. Common use cases include:

  • Matching components to FAA records
  • Cross-referencing overhaul history
  • Including engine info in printed logbooks or reports

Fields include:

  • Engine 1, 2 & 3 Serial Number
  • Engine 1, 2 & 3 Make / Model
  • Engine Overhaul Date (optional)

Note: Anytime users update the following fields, a historical Aircraft Detail record is created:

  • Engine SN, Make, Model
  • Prop SN

To review historical Aircraft Detail records:

  • Go to Modules > Aircraft.
  • Select the aircraft you want to view.
  • Click into the Detail tab, and click View History.
  • Select a date and click Continue.

Tracking Propeller Serial Numbers

Each aircraft can include up to two propeller serial numbers for tracking purposes. To track prop info, follow the same steps above for tracking Engine Serial Numbers, Makes and Models.

💡 Useful for work orders that involve prop-specific tasks or external repairs.

Tracking General Miscellaneous Dates

Additional fields on the Aircraft Detail page can store reference dates such as:

  • Last Oil Date
  • Battery Date
  • Last Oil Reading

These fields are optional but often used for:

  • Customer reporting
  • Sales or resale documentation
  • Internal planning and asset management
