Limiting Technician Access on an Aircraft using Work Center

This article explains how Work Centers function, how to set them up, and how to apply them to Aircraft and Technicians.

EBIS allows you to control which Technicians or Users can access specific Aircraft by assigning them to Work Centers. This functionality is helpful for shops with multiple departments, locations, or organizational roles, and ensures that users only see and interact with aircraft relevant to their work.

This article explains how Work Centers function, how to set them up, and how to apply them to Aircraft and Technicians.

Using the Work Center Functionality on an Aircraft & Work Order

Overview

When a Work Center is assigned to an Aircraft, EBIS admins can start applying the Work Center "access limits" to specific users. This means users assigned to a Work Center can only:

  • View Aircraft associated to that Work Center
  • Create or view Work Orders associated to that Work Center
  • Receive Work Order assignments for Aircraft/Work Orders associated to that Work Center

If a Work Center is applied to an Aircraft or Work Order, but the "access limit" isn't set up on a user's account, they will still be able to access that Aircraft or Work Order.

Once a Work Center access limit is applied to a user's account, and they will only be able to view and interact with Work Orders and Aircraft in that Work Center.

Applying the Work Center Limit to Technicians or Users

Once Work Centers are created, you can assign them to Technicians or other user roles to enforce access restrictions.

How to Assign a Work Center to a Technician

  1. Go to Config > Users.
  2. Select the Technician or User.
  3. In the user’s profile, click the Advanced Limits tab.
  4. In the Configure > Select... dropdown, select Work Center.

  6. Click Add and Close.
  7. Click Activate Limit to apply this Work Center limitation to the user.

Users will now only be able to access Aircraft and Work Orders tied to their assigned Work Center(s), unless they have administrative permissions that override these limits.

🔐 For cross-functional roles or managers, consider assigning multiple Work Centers or granting unrestricted access in their user role settings.
